Moving Tips:
How to get more bang for your buck!
1
Declutter Before Packing
Donate, sell, or discard items you no longer need. Fewer items mean faster loading and unloading, saving time and money.
2
Label Boxes Clearly
Mark each box with its contents and the room it belongs to. This helps movers place boxes directly where they need to go, reducing confusion and time.
3
Pack an Essentials Box
Keep items like toiletries, chargers, and a change of clothes in a separate box for easy access during your first day in your new home.
4
Disassemble Furniture in Advance
If possible, disassemble large furniture like beds, tables, couch legs and mirrors on dressers before movers arrive. Keep screws and hardware in labeled bags taped to the furniture.
5
Secure Loose Items
Wrap cords, secure drawers, and use zip ties for any loose or dangling parts to prevent damage during transport.
6
Avoid Overpacking Boxes
Heavy boxes slow down the move and increase the risk of breakage. Distribute weight evenly and use smaller boxes for heavier items like books. Also don't fill dressers as this makes it heavier and more difficult to move.
7
Communicate Special Instructions
Let the moving team know about fragile or valuable items, large pieces of furniture, or any tricky access points at either location.
8
Clear Pathways
Make sure hallways, staircases, and entryways are free of clutter. Clear snow and ice off sidewalks and stairs. Remove any finishing nails, pictures and other hanging items off the walls to allow movers to work quickly and safely.
Use Quality Packing Materials
9
Invest in sturdy boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, and furniture pads to protect your belongings and save time during loading. Wrap fragile pictures and mirrors with large blankets.
Be Ready When Movers Arrive
10
To maximize the team's time and efficiency, ensure everything is packed, sealed, and ready at the preferred door, if possible, before their arrival.
